2010-04-03 Spring Saturday

Spring is in the air!  Beginning Saturday, March 20, 41Fitness is hosting Spring Saturday events from 10 a.m.-noon.  Join us for a free tour and a free workout every Saturday during the month of April.  If you plan to work out, be sure to wear comfortable clothes and good shoes.  You’ll be moving around and breaking a sweat.

Saturdays are open gym from 9:00 a.m. until noon.  Members can come in to work on specific movements, particularly ones in which they need practice and further instruction.  We will have a WOD that they can do or they can choose to do a WOD they missed this week.

– The hooded sweatshirts are in and they look awesome!  If you haven’t already picked yours up, you can do so at The Boneyard.

– Yesterday was our second Spring Saturday. We’d like to thank Regina, Brian H., Gwen, Erin, Liz, George, and Joseph for visiting The Boneyard.  We look forward to seeing some of them working out at the gym soon!  41Fitness will host Spring Saturday events every Saturday in April.  Join us for a free tour and a free workout next Saturday, April 3.

– 41Fitness member Pete Russell and the undefeated Montgomery Yellowhammers have a make-up home game scheduled for Saturday, April 3 at 1 p.m.  The Yellowhammers play at the YMCA Soccer Complex on Brown Springs Road.  Join their Facebook group to receive updates.

– 41Fitness will be participating in two events in April.  Join us for the “Bite The Tail Off Cancer” Crawfish Boil on Saturday, April 10 and the 9th Annual Walk of Life on Saturday, April 17.  For more information, visit our Events page.  Note:  The Boneyard will be open as usual from 9:00 a.m. until noon on both days.

2010-03-07 Rest Day

Rest day…..hmmm…it definitely was NOT a rest day for Christina and David…

We just got home from Huntsville where we attended the Alabama / Mississippi / Tennessee Sectional for the 2010 CrossFit Games this weekend.  41Fitness trainer/owner David Sumner and friend Christina Van Der Hulst both competed to qualify for the 2010 CrossFit Games Regional Qualifier which feeds the 2010 CrossFit Games.  David placed 39th overall, out of 70 athletes, which was impressive considering he was sick and running a fever during the competition.  Christina placed 2nd overall and will be advancing to the Regional Qualifier in May.  Congrats to both of them for a job well done!

The weather this weekend was much better than the weather during the Garage Games.  The CrossFit community was welcoming, energetic, and supportive as usual.  Thanks to Russell Berger, owner of CrossFit Huntsville, the volunteers, and the judges, who put on a great event!

2010-03-06 CrossFit Sectional

41Fitness will be attending the Alabama / Mississippi / Tennessee Sectional for the 2010 CrossFit Games this weekend.  41Fitness trainer/owner David Sumner and friend Christina Van Der Hulst will be competing to qualify for the 2010 CrossFit Games Regional Qualifier which feeds the 2010 CrossFit Games.  Wish them luck!

Note:  The Boneyard will be closed Friday night and Saturday. We will resume our regular schedule on Monday. Below are a few WODs that you can do at home.  Post your times and feedback in comments.

5 Rounds for time:
– 20 Pushups
– 30 Situps
– 40 Air Squats

This is a good workout for our beginners.  To scale the WOD, reduce the number of reps for each movement by half (10-15-20).

For Time:
– 20 Situps
– 20 Walking Lunges (each leg)
– 20 Situps
– 20 Burpees
– 20 Situps

And for those of you who have access to a jump rope…

3 Rounds for time:
– 50 Double-Unders (150 Singles)
– 75 Air Squats

– Congratulations to 41Fitness member Pete Russell and the Montgomery Yellowhammers who beat the Knoxville Possums on Saturday, 29-3. The Yellowhammers have one more home game scheduled for Saturday, February 27 at 1 p.m.  You can also join their Facebook group.

2010-02-14 Rest Day

– We are beginning a new Foundations Program tomorrow, Monday, February 15.  Contact us today for a free tour of The Boneyard and to see a workout in progress.

– Congratulations to Team 41Fitness members: David, Kelly, Michael, Scott, and Christina, who placed 18th (out of 118 teams) in the 5-person marathon relay at the Mercedes Marathon, Half-Marathon and Relay today, February 14 in Birmingham, AL.  Their official time was 3:48:26.  Final Results

– Today begins Week 7 of our 100-Day Nutrition Challenge.  This is the third week that you will strive to eat Paleo and only Paleo.  You do not have to stop the challenge if you make a few mistakes.  Forget them and move on.  Paleo is a lifestyle not a fad diet.  It is never too late to start the challenge.  For more information on the Paleo Diet, read our Nutrition page.
